But she can make any song sound good. I'll offer a couple possibilities: Shakira - "Can't Remember To Forget You" Clean Bandit -"Rather Be" RE: Haley making a video with Scott Bradlee and PMJ - Merlin - 01-06-2015 I must say I'm more excited about this than I have been for anything in awhile. As far as son speculation goes, if it's a current pop song then the pool of songs it could be still is pretty small. Though I guess it depends on what is meant by "current". I'd say that the biggest song from the past few months that PMJ has yet to cover is "Bang Bang" and I'd be interested to hear Haley tackle that. Other notable current pop songs that haven't been covered include "Lips Are Movin" "Jealous" "Animals" "Centuries" (though PMJ hasn't covered any Fall Out Boy yet and I don't expect them to start) "Don't" "Thinking Out Loud" "Black Widow" "Night Changes" "Love Me Harder" "The Heart Wants What It Wants" Those last two along with Centuries seem unlikely. But actually now that I think of it, "Habits" by Tove Lo has yet to be covered and that would seem like a must to me. She's also got "Talking Body" out right now. And "Heroes". But I'd be shocked if PMJ didn't eventually cover "Habits". Given that the song she's covering is ragtime though, I'm not sure what it could be. I have a hard time imagining any of the above songs as ragtime. Oh, there's also "Ghost" by Ella Henderson. That'd be cool to hear. RE: Haley making a video with Scott Bradlee and PMJ - mercfan3 - 01-06-2015 Ugh...her and Casey need to cover "Take Me To Church" then...and the arrangement from PMJ is awesome too..Haley would have killed it.. "Black Widow" could be really cool. What about "Uptown Funk" "Habits' from Tove Lo is another possibility "Bang Bang" is also an option.. I don't like that "Ghost" song though. Even though it's really popular. RE: Haley making a video with Scott Bradlee and PMJ - Merlin - 01-06-2015 I left "Uptown Funk" out because I highly doubt that they'd turn that into ragtime when there are so many better possibilities for it. I was listening to various pop songs -- but couldn't tolerate it any longer. I hope she doesn't do "Lips Are Movin." It would be interesting to see if Haley could turn a meh song like jealous into something special. RE: Haley making a video with Scott Bradlee and PMJ - 30CamdenSquare - 01-07-2015 Take Me to Church has been a favorite of mine for a while now. I posted it as a song suggestion for Bria & tweeted Josh about covering it on The Voice last spring, but idk if either of them would've sounded any better than Morgan James does in this vid. It's pretty friggin' gorgeous. I'm sure whichever song Haley & PMJ revamped into a ragtime tune will be great. I know Haley said she was covering a current pop song, but there's an off chance that she just meant popular song in the past couple of years rather than pop as a genre. In which case, a few that would be on my wish list are: Avicii - Addicted To You Chet Faker - Gold Alt J - Left Hand Free or Tessellate The Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know RE: Haley making a video with Scott Bradlee and PMJ - My Alter Ego - 01-07-2015 Quote:On a lighter note, have you guys listened to Morgan James before? She has a beautiful voice and has appeared on Broadway in several productions. I was listening to PMJ "Its a Man's Man's Man's World" the other night. Haley would have sounded amazing singing this song. Babbs, you're right -- Morgan has a beautiful voice. Morgan's been classically trained (for opera, no less) and I'm always impressed by those with such training who utilize good technique (especially in breath support) without succumbing to the heavy vibrato associated with opera. She has also sung on Broadway, but I don't hear a lot of "brightness" typically associated with a "Broadway voice" (think Idina Menzel or Kristen Chenoweth). Good for Morgan! Many singers with either background can't make those shifts, so much credit to her for her versatility. That said, the arrangement of "Man's World" was one of those that I'd mentioned around Christmas -- "over arranged." To me, the arrangement sucks the life out of the song, which is never a good thing, particularly with a song like this one. I hope that Haley's video will be the next one released. And I hope that it will bring the kind of viewership that we all are hoping for/expecting. I truly do hope that. |
